It is based upon the 1948 novel Elephant Walk by "Robert Standish", the pseudonym of the English novelist Digby George Gerahty (1898–1981).
Elizabeth Taylor stars as a young bride who faces isolation and danger at a tea plantation in Ceylon, where elephants roam freely. The film features bicycle polo, a love triangle, and a spectacular elephant rampage.
