Elmer Kane (Joe E. Brown) is an arrogant but gullible baseball player who must leave his Gentryville sweetheart, Nellie (Patricia Ellis), to join the Chicago Cubs. Once on board, his teammates take advantage of his gullibility with practical jokes, and the management hides the letters that come from Nellie.
