Swan Lake (世界名作童話 白鳥の湖, Sekai Meisaku Dōwa: Hakuchō no Mizuumi, lit. ' World Masterpiece Fairy Tales: Swan Lake ') is an anime film based on the ballet Swan Lake by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The film was produced by Toei Animation to celebrate its 25th anniversary and it was directed by Kimio Yabuki.
The movie opens as Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman), a young ballerina in her mid twenties, is dancing the prologue to Swan Lake. Swan Lake is a ballet in which a princess is turned into the White Swan and can only be turned back if a man swears eternal fidelity to her.
The film stars Natalie Portman in the lead role, with Vincent Cassel, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey, and Winona Ryder in supporting roles. The plot revolves around a production of Tchaikovsky 's Swan Lake by the company of New York City Ballet.
