After his manager, Kenny Donford (Bill Bixby), loses money gambling on horse races, slick stock car driver Steve Grayson (Elvis Presley) must earn enough on the track to keep Kenny out of jail. With the help of his mentor, Abel Esterlake (William Schallert), Steve does his best to win a series of races at Charlotte Speedway.
