- Airport ’77 was certainly no critical darling — it was just too overpopulated with extraneous characters attached to a rather thin plot — but it still managed to be one of Universal’s most successful pictures that year, and as overburdened as the film was, the cast as a whole put in excellent performances.

The movie’s a big, slick entertainment, relentlessly ridiculous and therefore never boring for long. It has most of the obligatory characters for an Arc Movie: The pilot, needless to say ( Jack Lemmon this flight), and the stewardess he’s in love with, the statesman, the aging glamour girl, the doctor and the Dying Child.
