Bobby Taylor (Robert Townsend) is a young, middle class black man living in Los Angeles who is aspiring to become a famous actor in Hollywood.
Hollywood Shuffle. This debut feature by Robert Townsend is an ingenious satirical landmark that takes riotous aim at the typecasting of Black actors in 1980s Hollywood.
It is a movie about a young man much like Townsend, who makes the rounds, fights stereotypes and dreams of the day when there will be a black Rambo. The movie begins with Townsend working in a hot dog stand owned by a couple of negative thinkers who don't believe he can be successful as an actor.
