The Wild Child ( French: L'Enfant sauvage, released in the United Kingdom as The Wild Boy) is a 1970 French film by director François Truffaut. Featuring Jean-Pierre Cargol, François Truffaut, Françoise Seigner and Jean Dasté, it tells the story of a child who spends the first eleven or twelve years of his life with little or no human contact.
Francois Truffaut's "The Wild Child" is the story of a "wolf boy" who lived like an animal in the woods, and about the doctor who adopted him and tried to civilize him. The story is essentially true, drawn from an actual case in 18th Century France, and Truffaut tells it simply and movingly.

In late 18th-century France in the district of Aveyron, villagers capture a young boy who has been seen living wild in nearby woods. A farmer houses the boy in his barn until Dr. Jean Itard, who has read of the case in the local papers, takes the boy to the Institute for the Deaf and Dumb in Paris.
