The Lost Continent is a 1968 adventure film made by Hammer Films and Seven Arts featuring Eric Porter, Hildegard Knef, Suzanna Leigh, Tony Beckley, and James Cossins. The film was produced, directed and written by Michael Carreras based on Dennis Wheatley's novel Uncharted Seas (1938).
This same seaweed world turns out to be the home of a long-lost community of sailors, ruled (somewhat tyranically) by descendants of the Spanish Inquisition. Eric Porter plays the lead role with a commendably straight face, getting over a convincing reading the ship's captain.
When a tramp steamer is attacked by a mass of living seaweed, the occupants are forced to take refuge on a strange island.
