Feb 20, 2022 · Flight Into Danger, as it was then called, starred James Doohan as George Spencer, a former WW2 fighter pilot who finds himself forced to take the controls of the passenger plane he is travelling on when food poisoning strikes down several passengers and the pilots.
In the 1956 CBC teleplay the WW2 pilot, played by James Doohan, is asked by the flight attendant if he could take over control of the airliner. He answers: "I flew single engine fighers during the war.

By March, Hailey had fleshed his story into a television script called Flight Into Danger and sent it to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1956, the CBC was four-years old and struggling for a hit that would justify them as more than a local service for British and American television.
