During an amateur boxing prizefight a young boy, Joey Parker, is beaten to death, and there is no acceptable official reason for why it happened. Because of this his sister, Mary Parker, becomes a strong opponent of boxing and all it stands for.
To further sabotage Wally's efforts, Taggerty bribes professional boxer Cliff Stanton to pose as an amateur and enter the tournament, but his plans go awry when Bill, inspired by Mary's vows of love, beats Stanton, thus exposing Taggerty's treachery and winning national acclaim for the Golden Gloves tournament.

This Dmytryk B-picture juggles prizefightin' with racketeerin' and romancin' and packs them into an 80 minute runtime to surprisingly successful degrees. It's entertaining and even sometimes thrilling, even if overall it feels quite silly and contrived.
