Celebrated 18th-century British actor David Garrick (Brian Aherne) receives an invitation from the Comédie-Française in Paris, but they mistakenly hear that he's planning to give them acting lessons. Insulted, the troupe arranges to stay at his inn and put on an outlandish performance to convince him of their acting skills.
