Four petty thieves from a circus sideshow -- ventriloquist Professor Echo (Lon Chaney), strong man Herman (Ivan Linow), dwarf Willie (Harry Earles) and pickpocket Rosie (Lila Lee), whom Echo loves -- run away from the show and establish themselves in a small town. There they open a pet shop, which they use as a front to gain access to the homes of wealthy patrons and steal from them.
