Synopsis. The film chronicles the 1947 hearings of the House Un-American Activities Committee, with a focus on the Hollywood Ten directors, screenwriters and producers cited for contempt of Congress and blacklisted by the movie industry after refusing to answer questions about their alleged involvement with the Communist Party.
These people were subpoenaed to appear before HUAC in October. [1] The contempt citation included a criminal charge, which led to a highly publicized trial and an eventual conviction with a maximum of one year in jail in addition to a $1,000 fine (equivalent to $13,645 in 2023). [2]
Documentary detailing the events surrounding the hearings held by the House Un-American Activities Committee in the 1940s and 1950s to investigate alleged Communist infiltration in Hollywood. Uses interviews, archival footage and clips from Hollywood films.
