With both Dino Risi and Alberto Sordi at the peak of their powers, Il vedovo has a lot going for itself. Risi makes excellent use of a witty screenplay to deliver one of his most energetic and funniest comedies, whilst Sordi plays one hell of a prodigal sleazeball, both hilariously incompetent and highly ambitious at the same time.
