Sep 7, 2007 · Ironworker Nick lives with his wife, Kitty, and three daughters. When he meets a significantly younger woman, Tula, he starts an affair with her, much to the chagrin of his wife, and his life is thrown into upheaval.
This down-and-dirty musical set in the world of working-class New York tells the story of a husband's journey into infidelity and redemption when he must choose between his seductive mistress and his beleaguered wife. Nick and Kitty Murder are married middle-aged working class New Yorkers.
There's a certain quality to Romance and Cigarettes that marks it as a pop-marked must-see, a picture with terrific songs (ranging from Joplin to James Brown to Elvis to Cindi Lauper), and some terrific numbers to go along with them.
Nick Murder's journey into infidelity and redemption is explored through the repercussions of his adultery and doomed fascination with a flame haired seductress named Tula. For Kitty, Nick's long suffering wife, his treachery is the final straw.
