Lt. Siegfried Sassoon (James Wilby), a poet and war veteran, is facing court-martial for publicly decrying British conduct in World War I. His poet friend Robert Graves (Dougray Scott) pulls strings to get Sassoon placed in a psychiatric war hospital in Scotland, where soldiers are to be swiftly rehabilitated and sent back into battle.
