May 15, 2023 · The Metallica reference, it turns out, is very intentional. In fact, both Susser and Gordon-Levitt have revealed that the Hesher character was inspired by none other than Cliff Burton, Metallica’s legendary bassist, killed in a bus accident in 1986.
After school, Dustin, a bully from the towing service, finds his car vandalized and blames T.J., who is saved and taken home by Nicole (Natalie Portman), a grocery store clerk. Hesher witnesses Dustin attacking T.J., but does nothing.
