Synopsis. Colonel Kirby has been given operational command of the US Green Beret forces in Vietnam is about to be shipped. At Fort Bragg, newspaper reporter George Beckworth (portrayed by David Janssen) attends a Special Forces briefing on America's role in the Vietnam War.
A cynical reporter (David Janssen) who is opposed to the Vietnam War is sent to cover the conflict and assigned to tag along with a group of Green Berets. Led by the tough-as-nails Col. Mike Kirby (John Wayne), the team is given a top-secret mission to sneak behind enemy lines and kidnap an important Viet Cong commander.

An intrepid colonel (John Wayne) and a team of Green Berets defend a firebase camp in Viet Cong-controlled territory in Vietnam accompanied by a cynical journalist (David Janssen). The colonel and a select group of his men eventually implement a special mission to capture a high-level Viet Cong general.
It is a soldier's film, starring not John Wayne and his fellow stereotyped heroes but actual infantrymen in the field, most of them young, sincere, brave, weary and saddened by the things they see and some of the things they must do. "A Face of War" is available for exhibition in Chicago.
