My Friend Flicka is a 1943 American Western film about a young boy, played by Roddy McDowall, who is given a young horse to raise. It is based on Mary O'Hara's popular 1941 children's novel of the same name. Thunderhead, Son of Flicka, released on March 15, 1945, was the sequel to My Friend Flicka.
With Roddy McDowall, Preston Foster, Rita Johnson, James Bell. Ken McLaughlin struggles to please his family in any way. He comes back from boarding school boasting poor grades and facing going through the fifth grade again, much to his fathers dismay.

Ken's mother, Nell, manages to persuade his father Rob to let him choose a colt from the herd for himself.
Ken McLaughlin is a precocious 10-year-old who lives with his family on a remote Wyoming ranch. At the suggestion of his wife, Nell, Rob allows Ken to choose a single colt from the herd to raise as his own.
