Raggedy Man is a 1981 American drama film based on William D. Wittliff and Sara Clark's 1979 novel, and directed by Jack Fisk. [1] It follows a divorced mother and telephone switchboard operator (Sissy Spacek) living with her two sons in a small town during World War II.

Synopsis. In the town of Edna, Texas, in 1940, Nita Longley (Sissy Spacek) carries her infant, William Henry Longley, to a local bar and sees her husband, Harry Longley Sr., kissing another woman. Outside, she takes the hand of Harry Junior (Henry Thomas), her other son, and returns home.
“Raggedy Man” was Sissy Spacek’s first movie after she won the Academy Award for “Coal Minder’s Daughter,” and the first movie directed by her husband, Jack Fisk. (She met him when he was the art director for her first starring movie, “ Badlands,” back in 1973.)
While World War II rages overseas, a divorced mother of two, Nita Longley (Sissy Spacek), struggles to makes ends meet as a telephone operator in small-town Texas.
