Sep 15, 2023 · The U.S. Board on Geographic Names decided to change the name of the 14,265-foot mountain in Colorado after years of debate and consultation. The new name was proposed by a tribal elder of the Southern Arapaho tribe and opposed by a Northern Cheyenne tribal administrator.
