Engler was born in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and was raised in Beal City, Michigan. He earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from Michigan State University in 1970. He later received a J.D. from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1985.
With boldness and vision for the future, Governor Engler also cut taxes, reformed welfare, right-sized government and implemented the biggest road repair and rebuilding plan in state history. Under his watch, the quality of Michigan’s water, land and air resources has steadily improved.
