    Sajid Javid was born on 5 December 1969 in Rochdale, Lancashire, one of five sons of Pakistani parents, who had immigrated to the United Kingdom in the 1960s. His family were Punjabi Muslim farmers belonging to the Arain caste, from the village of Rajana in the Toba Tek Singh District of southern Punjab. His father worked as a bus driver.
