Robert Walpole was born on August 26, 1676, at Houghton Hall in Norfolk, England. In the 1690s he was educated at Eton and King’s College, Cambridge. Upon the death of his elder surviving brother, Walpole had to leave school, and, instead of entering the church, he returned to Norfolk to help with his father’s estates.
