Thomas "Tad" Lincoln (April 4, 1853 – July 15, 1871) was the fourth and youngest son of the 16th President of the United States Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd Lincoln.

Thomas “Tad” Lincoln (April 4, 1853 – July 15, 1871) was the fourth and youngest son of President Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln. Tad was named after Thomas Lincoln, Abraham’s father who had died in 1851. Tad’s head was unusually large at birth.
Tad was inventive in thinking up mischief and he became rather famous for his pranks, which he often carried out with the help of his older brother Willie. Tad died on July 15, 1871, at the age of 18, about six years after the assassination of his father.
The young Lincoln brothers, Willie and Tad were described by Lincoln’s law partner as “hellions” when they visited the law office that he shared with Lincoln. Their rambunctious and indulged personalities would soon become legendary at the White House in Washington D.C.
