Nov 18, 2016 · In 1979, Margaret Rockefeller Strong, daughter of Dr. Charles Augustus Strong and Elizabeth Rockefeller, and granddaughter of John D. Rockefeller, donated her father’s estate, Villa Le Balze, to Georgetown University.
Partly funded by Trustee John D. Rockefeller and named after his eldest child, Elizabeth Rockefeller Strong, a special student in 1866-68, Vassar’s commitment to the construction of individual residence halls was an immediate success.

Career. Bessie was a special student at Vassar College 1886—1888. Strong Hall. The school"s first dormitory, was named in honor of Bessie in 1893 by her father who contributed $35,000 toward the expense of the construction.
