It was a great experience sleeping in various hill tribe villages. However it struck me as slightly daft to have to travel 3 hours to a trekking location when right outside the city is the Doi Suthep National Park which is accessible in 30 minutes from the city.

Doi Pui is very accessible, with a long winding but well paved road reaching nearly to the summit. There are a couple of waterfalls and viewpoints along the way, and any trip to the peak should include a visit to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, one of the most important temples in all of Thailand.
