March 31, 1988. Freethinkers Hall, also known as Park Hall, is a meeting hall in Sauk City, Wisconsin. Designed by Alfred Clas, Freethinkers Hall was built in 1884 for the local Freethinkers congregation, or Freie Gemeinde in German.

On October 24, 1852, exactly 80 “Germans of Sauk City and the surrounding area” signed the call for organizing the Freie Gemeinde von Sauk County, Wisconsin.

Jan 12, 2015 · In 1884 they built Park Hall (known locally as Freethinkers Hall), a spacious, many-windowed wooden structure where the group continues meeting today. In 1955 the congregation dealt with aging and decreasing membership by affiliating with the American Unitarian Association.

Here in the Freethinkers’ Hall, German culture--its language, literature, music, and food--flourished in public lectures, concerts, and celebrations, and thus the building helped to maintain a close-knit community.
