Lucius Sergius Catilina (c. 108 BC – January 62 BC), known in English as Catiline (/ ˈ k æ t ə l aɪ n /), was a Roman politician and soldier, best known for instigating the Catilinarian conspiracy, a failed attempt to violently seize control of the Roman state in 63 BC.

The Catilinarian conspiracy, sometimes Second Catilinarian conspiracy, was an attempted coup d'état by Lucius Sergius Catilina (Catiline) to overthrow the Roman consuls of 63 BC – Marcus Tullius Cicero and Gaius Antonius Hybrida – and forcibly assume control of the state in their stead.
Catiline, ever the warrior, fought with the ferocity of a man with nothing left to lose. He and his men resisted valiantly, but as the day wore on, the superior tactics and numbers of the Roman legions began to tell.

Jun 11, 2018 · Catiline (c.108–62 bc), Roman nobleman and conspirator. In 63 bc his planned uprising was discovered by Cicero, and Catiline fled from Rome. In the suppression of the uprising his fellow conspirators were executed and Catiline himself died in battle in Etruria.

Sep 11, 2022 · The Catiline Conspiracy was the attempt of the Roman senator Catiline to overthrow the government of Rome whilst Cicero was a consul. This happened during the Roman Republic which was the period of Rome’s history before the Empire.
Cicero, warned by Fulvia, the mistress of one of the conspirators, of the intention to assassinate him as a first step in the movement, summons the senate and accuses Catiline, who leaves Rome and joins the troops raised by his adherents at Faesulae.
