The A. K. Smiley Public Library is a public library located at 125 W. Vine St. in Redlands, California. Built in 1898, the library was donated to Redlands by philanthropist Albert K. Smiley. The library is within Smiley Park Historic District and adjacent the Redlands Bowl and Lincoln Memorial Shrine .
Established in 1894, A.K. Smiley Public Library has served generations of patrons in the City of Redlands and beyond. The only “admission fee” is curiosity. Lifelong learning is at the center of activity in the beautiful, historic building and attractive grounds!

A.K. Smiley Public Library issues free library cards to those who meet the application requirements. Photo identification with current home address must be shown upon applying or when replacing a lost card. A responsible party, with proper identification, may obtain a library card for minors.
Books, audio materials, videos (VHS), DVDs, video games, pamphlets, and periodicals may be checked out for two weeks. eBooks may be checked out from one to three weeks. Framed art, two per adult card, may be checked out for six weeks. Certain Reference periodicals can be checked out overnight. All materials may be renewed twice for an additional fo...
Fees are added to accounts when a patron loses or damages a library item. If materials are kept overdue more than 60 days or fees total more than $10 then all borrowing and computer privileges are suspended until fees over $9.99 are paid or the library is reimbursed for lost or damaged items.
Patrons with a valid library card may use the public computers for free. Public computer usage is limited to three hours per day. Public computers shutdown 20 minutes prior to library closing. Preserving Redlands’ Treasures
Each year, Smiley Heritage Tours offers bus tours to fourth grade students. We visit key historical sites in Redlands and are proud to report that following our tours, the fourth graders can speak with some authority about the significance of Redlands’ landmarks, its founders, the navel orange, and cut-stone curbs. They are also able to better understand the role the contributions from so many have played in making Redlands a special place.

One of the great philanthropic gifts to the City of Redlands, the Smiley Library is among California’s oldest and most important public libraries. Hours of Operation: Mon-Tues 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wed-Thurs 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fri-Sat 9 a.m, to 5 p.m. Sun 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
