William Law (1686 – 9 April 1761) was a Church of England priest who lost his position at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, when his conscience would not allow him to take the required oath of allegiance to the first Hanoverian monarch, King George I.
William Law (born 1686, King’s Cliffe, Northamptonshire, Eng.—died April 9, 1761, King’s Cliffe) was an English author of influential works on Christian ethics and mysticism. He entered Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in 1705 and in 1711 was elected a fellow there and was ordained.
William Law, the English devotional writer, controversialist, theologian, and mystic, was a fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge. As a nonjuror, he refused to take the oath to King George I and thus terminated his career at the university and in the church.
William Law (September 8, 1809 – January 19, 1892) was an important figure in the early history of the Latter Day Saint movement, holding a position in the church's First Presidency under Joseph Smith Jr.
