   fabulous hiking. Hatcher Pass is located just a little outside of Palmer, AK, which is 45 minutes north of Anchorage. It's the only road I saw that really drives you up into the mountains. Most Alaskan roads tend to stay down in valleys, but this will actually take you up high into the mountains.
