The Kingdom of Georgia ( Georgian: საქართველოს სამეფო, romanized: sakartvelos samepo ), also known as the Georgian Empire, [9] was a medieval Eurasian monarchy that was founded in c. 1008 AD. It reached its Golden Age of political and economic strength during the reign of King David IV and King Tamar the Great from the 11th to 13th centuries.
George IV was 48 when he became Regent in 1811, as a result of the illness of his father, George III. He succeeded to the throne in January 1820. He had secretly and illegally married a Roman Catholic, Mrs Fitzherber, in 1785.
Tamar was the queen of Georgia from 1184 to 1213 CE. She is considered one of the greatest of medieval Georgia's monarchs, and she presided over its greatest territorial expansion, taking advantage of the decline of other major powers in the region.
