St Paul's was one of nine English public schools investigated by the Clarendon Commission, which subsequently became known as the Clarendon schools.

  4. Saint Paul’s School, one of the major public (i.e., privately endowed) schools in England. It was founded in 1509 by John Colet, dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral in the City of London. Originally located in the cathedral churchyard, the school was destroyed in the Great Fire but rebuilt in 1670.
