Some of the characters appeared in the spin-off shows Pretty Dirty Secrets, Ravenswood, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists and Pretty Little Liars (2022). Below is a list consisting of the many characters who have appeared throughout the original series' seven-season run.
- Kelsie Gibson
- Lucy Hale as Aria Montgomery. When Pretty Little Liars was on the air, Hale played Aria Montgomery, an artistic student who is part of a group of friends rocked by the mysterious disappearance (and presumed death) of their friend Alison.
- Shay Mitchell as Emily Fields. Mitchell played Emily Fields, who is part of Alison's main friend group, and eventually gets engaged to her at the end of the series.
- Ashley Benson as Hanna Marin. Benson played Hanna Marin, another one of Alison's close friends on the show. Since the Freeform series ended, Benson has turned her focus to film, including starring roles in Her Smell (2018) alongside Cara Delevingne, whom she dated from 2018 to 2020, The Birthday Cake (2021) and Private Property (2022).
- Troian Bellisario as Spencer Hastings. Bellisario played Spencer Hastings, the most book-smart member of the Liars. Bellisario has continued acting in various films, including Feed (2017) costarring Tom Felton (she also wrote the screenplay), Clara (2018) alongside husband Patrick J.
