War and Peace ( Russian: Война и мир, romanized : Voyna i mir; pre-reform Russian: Война и миръ; [vɐjˈna i ˈmʲir]) is a literary work by Russian author Leo Tolstoy. Set during the Napoleonic Wars, the work mixes fictional narrative with chapters discussing history and philosophy.
War and Peace is a historical novel by Leo Tolstoy first published serially in 1865–69. It depicts relationships between the Rostov, Bolkonsky, Bezukhov, and Kuragin families and follows their members as they fight in a war against Napoleon, marry, make and lose fortunes, and die over the course of about a decade.
As Napoleon’s army invades, Tolstoy brilliantly follows characters from diverse backgrounds—peasants and nobility, civilians and soldiers—as they struggle with the problems unique to their era, their history, and their culture.

War & Peace: With Paul Dano, James Norton, Lily James, Adrian Edmondson. As the Russian conflict with Napoleon reaches its peak, five aristocratic families face the possibility of their lives being changed forever.
