The Goodies is a British television comedy series shown in the 1970s and early 1980s. The series, which combines surreal sketches and situation comedy, was broadcast by the BBC, initially on BBC2 but soon repeated on BBC1, [1] from 1970 to 1980. One seven-episode series was made for ITV company LWT and shown in 1981–82.
The Goodies arrive at the village of Penrudden Cove to enjoy a relaxing holiday only to discover the town strangely deserted with the exception of the local vicar. They quickly deduct a local military base is the reason for the problems the town has suffered.
During the course of the programme, 76 episodes of The Goodies aired, including two specials over nine series. Since the death of Tim Brooke-Taylor from COVID-19 complications on 12 April 2020, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie are the two surviving cast members.
The Goodies were a trio of British comedians: Tim Brooke-Taylor (17 July 1940–12 April 2020), Graeme Garden (b. 18 February 1943) and Bill Oddie (b. 7 July 1941). The trio created, wrote for and performed in their eponymous television comedy show from 1970 until 1982, combining sketches and situation comedy.
The Goodies help out a police officer by committing a crime so that he can arrest someone. The plan goes horribly wrong: the officer arrests them, and the Goodies are thrown in jail.
