The thirteenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race was officially announced on August 20, 2020. Filming began on July 20, 2020 with production officially ending on August 31, when the contestants resumed social media activity.
On Tuesday, December 8, 2020, the first promo for Season 13 was accidentally leaked on the official YouTube channel revealing the season would premiere on Friday, January 1, 2021 and revealing several queens.
On December 9, 2020 (the birthday of the reigning queen, Jaida Essence Hall), the cast was officially announced on Twitter and promos were released. The promo theme for the season was "Pasteloquence", featuring the queens in a pin-up silhouette modified for their drag style in pastel colors.
On February 26, 2021, VH1 aired a documentary entitled "RuPaul's Drag Race: Corona Can't Keep A Good Drag Queen Down" which revealed how Season 13 was filmed during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The documentary featured the queens' experiences, never-before-seen footage and casting reels, and how they managed to produce it safely during the pandemic. The documentary aired in place of Episode 9 that was originally set to air that date, with the Snatch Game episode airing on March 5, 2021 instead.
The final episode was in part dedicated to Chi Chi DeVayne, who passed away in August 2020.
The Winner of Season 13 was Symone, with Kandy Muse placing as Runner-Up and Rosé and Gottmik placing as 3rd/4th Place. The Winner of the Miss Congeniality title was LaLa Ri.

- Phenomenon. S13 E3. Jan 16, 2021. The previously chopped queens return to walk in a fashion runway show, then perform a choreographed number to RuPaul's song "Phenomenon," and comedian Nicole Byer guest judges.
- RuPaulmark Channel. S13 E4. Jan 23, 2021. After the queens come together for the first time, RuPaul hosts a holiday movie marathon featuring Hallmark Channel-inspired parodies, and Loni Love sits in with the judges.
