•The fifth season is marked by the birth of Jamie, the youngest of the family, who was born at the end of the fourth season, and his first adventures. Reese seeks to gain his independence, by living for a while in an apartment, then enlisting in the army at the end of the season, Malcolm asserts himself more and more within the family and in high school, and the great- mother Ida returns in several tasty episodes.
