The Balance is the tenth episode of Roswell.
Michael discovers Max's drawings of the cave paintings River Dog showed him, and realizes Max has been keeping information from him. Infuriated, Michael goes to the reservation himself, and partakes in a Native American "sweat" ritual.
Meanwhile, Alex remains skeptical about the recently-shared secret, until he begins spending time with Isabel, who shows him her powers.
The group discovers Michael having gone into a powerful trance, his eyes completely white, sweating, and chanting Native American words. Realizing where he has been, Max and Liz make their way to the reservation, where River Dog tells them that he was trying to see if Michael was an alien. Apparently, the alien from the 1950s experienced the ritual, and immediately began experiencing such symptoms. When Michael didn't at first, he thought he was an impostor, and sent him on his way. Now that he realizes the truth, he asks them to bring Michael to the reservation to be healed.
Max, Liz, Isabel, Maria, and Alex bring Michael to the cave, where River Dog gives them stones given to him by the alien from the 1950s. He also reveals the alien's name, or at least what he called him: Nasedo. Standing around Michael in a circle, they enter into a sort of telepathy, discovering Michael's image of his own body trapped in a desert surrounded by alien symbols. Liz, however, cannot take part at first because she is preoccupied by her own worries. She sees what is happening to Michael, and is afraid of what could happen to Max, given such great circumstances. She does however, make it into the ritual midway through, and Michael is revived. Having experienced visions in his trance, he takes the stones and fits them into a series of holes in the cave walls, where they immediately glow, forming a "V" shaped constellation, which Michael says is a map.
Later, Max once again meets Liz on her rooftop, where he tells her he understands her fears, because all the strange things that could happen to him in his life is a major part of the reason why he resisted their relationship in the first place. The recent events have made him realize he was right, and he abruptly breaks up with Liz.
