    Warning: full episode spoilers follow.

It was clear from last week’s big cliffhanger that “The Trap” would be an eventful chapter. Our heroes have stumbled across Dr. Wells’ secret lair (or “The Time Vault” as they’re now calling it) and there’s no more denying that Wells is indeed the man in yellow. This episode took that development and ran with it, offering a story heavy on drama and revelations and only occasionally bogged down by filler.

Right off the bat, the Time Vault offered some really interesting material as Barry, Caitlin and Cisco learned far more about the future than they bargained for. Barry discovered that he’s destined for a big job promotion, that he’s the founding member of… something (more on that in a minute), that he’s doomed to disappear ten years from now, and that he’ll eventually convince Iris to marry him. That’s a lot for even a speedster to process. The trio’s interaction with Gideon was especially interesting, as she offered more insight into Wells’ motivations and even revealed that she’s loyal to her creator, Barry, above all else. I suspect that last tidbit may come in handy before long.

As for the “founding member” business, presumably Gideon was about to name-drop the Justice League before Barry cut her off. Interestingly, in the comic book preview page for this episode that was released a few days ago, Gideon actually uttered the word “Justice” before Barry interrupted her. I’m not sure why that was left out of the actual episode, but maybe the writers and producers haven’t settled on what exactly they’re calling the super-team of this universe. I could even see them opting for the Justice Society name so as to create some distance between these shows and the Justice League movie.

As the end of the first season approaches, things are definitely heating up for The Flash. "The Trap" offered a great mix of twists and drama, with a lot oft he episode hinging on Dr. Wells and his mysterious goals. Along the way, the brief but effective flashbacks fleshed out several key characters. Yes, some of the material towards the middle cam...
