Element 5 is the fifth episode of the ARK: The Animated Series.

    Summary

Nerva tells Edmund of one of the stories he heard from his mother about the gods, and she'd tell him of Elysian. He notes how, instead of bending over to submission by what had fate befallen him, Nerva decided to fight against the odds and rise up once again. Recalling that Edmund promised Nerva that when he swore allegiance to him, he'd never fail him, why was it that Helena who has his artifact still evaded capture thus far? When Edmund studdered to answer, he's cut off by Nevra, who claims that Meiyin has reappeared and has subjugated one of his most productive quarries. Edmund tries to undermine the situation, citing that Meiyin is but one person and that her allies are pitiable and pose no threat to Nevra's power. On the other hand, Nevra argues that even the most humble opponents can evolve into the greatest threat and asks Edmund if he knows the consequences of defying the gods. He continues by stating that anything is possible once the bonds of fate are broken. Edmund then becomes startled by Nevra's chained beast, which is hungry for the meat that its master has. After Nevra feeds his beast, Nevra grabs Edmund by his neck and claims that Edmund knows nothing about war and that his personal scars have taught him that every action has a consequence. However, Nevra points out that Edmund has no scars. Nevra then restrains Edmund, threatening to break his arm, and explains the consequences of what would happen if he did so. At that moment, the soldier who escaped from the mine reports to Nevra that Helena was one of the people who attacked and overthrew the mine. Pleased to hear the news, Nevra releases Edmund from his grasp. He then vows to have his vengeance against Helena and retrieve all of the artifacts so he can go through the door and crush all who get in his way. All of it was to fulfill Nevra's ultimate goal of returning to Rome. At John's camp, Meiyin trains a group of men while Henry watches from above. Helena assists Chava in performing first aid on a wounded soldier, and Chava notices that something is on Helena's mind. Before Helena could answer, she spotted Meiyin pass by and was followed by the men she was training, who carried buckets of water over their shoulders with a staff member. One of the men collapses, and Helena claims that Meiyin should be mindful of how she treats them as they are freed slaves. Meiyin found the comment amusing, and then the slave who collapsed, whose name was Lawrence, should have his bandage redone by Chava. When Helena questions how good an army is for Meiyin if it can't even stand, Meiyin metaphorically describes them as the clay that she'd mold with her hands. Upset by Meiyin's response, Helena shows Meiyin the people they emancipated and how they'd go to hell for her, which she argues is everything they need to avoid doing. Helena claims they deserve to rest and recover their strength. On the other hand, Meiyin argues that Helena has no right to lecture her, as she knows nothing about war or warfare. Meiyin also notes how Helena lacked the courage to kill the one soldier who got away. Although Helena argues what point was there to kill an unarmed man, Meiyin claimed he was an enemy who'd kill her if he had the chance. John then approaches Meiyin, and she dismisses her trainees and talks to John, who informs him that they haven't located the escaped soldier from the mine. He also details that the Council has yet to decide the path forward with the refugees in their care. A flashback shows a young Meiyin, alongside her younger brother, practicing using bamboo staffs against General Zhou. Amid this, Zhou strikes Han in the face, causing his nose to bleed. Zhou lectures Han that his enemies will show him no mercy since his nose is bleeding. He further explains that their parents died in their sleep thanks to the betrayal of their enemies. Meiyin then attacks Zhou but gets hit in the gut by his staff. Hence, Meiyin breaks his staff and goes on the offensive against Zhou and is joined by Han. Impressed by the two's teamwork, Zhou concedes to the two and tells them that they need to pick up where the other falls and make the other continually stronger. He ends his lecture with "Weakness is death", which Meiyin and Han recite. The two then faint from exhaustion, and Zhou claims that the Emperor's court believes their great cause has been forgotten. However, Zhou believes the court underestimates the common people's desire for justice. Han then asks how they can stand against a mighty force when they're outnumbered. On the other hand, Zhou questions if numbers alone make a force superior, and Meiyin answers that it's a quality of the troops and the keenness of their strategy. Zhou then claims that every battle is fought in the mind, and to remember; they need to build alliances among the people's vast empire to have a greater influence than their enemy could ever fathom. He then asks the two to fetch him some tea, and as they walk away, Zhou wishes that Meiyin had been chosen as the heir. In the present, Helena attends a meeting with the Council, where Meiyin voices her disdain over the suggestion that they try to get Kor on their side. The suggestion was Alasie's, who worked really hard at planning it. Chava liked Alasie's plan, but John noticed that Henry's body language was opposed to it. Henry then claims that whatever thoughts they may have, their actions are judged there. He goes on to chastise Meiyin for her obsession with destroying Nevra, which clouds her thinking and actions. Hence, Henry suggests that Meiyin would no longer lead their people if another alliance were made. Alasie tries to voice her support for Meiyin; however, Henry argues that he acknowledges her fighting caliber and that she's not a leader. Hearing Henry's words, Meiyin claims that there will never be a time when she is not betrayed. John then says that no one will be removed from their commanding position without a proper vote by the Council. On the other hand, John notes that such a decision shouldn't be made in haste and that an open debate must be held. Henry wanted the debate to begin at once, but John admonished it, suggesting they eat lunch first. One of the three council members then claims that the debate will be held within five days and that all sides should consider their options. Once the Council, Alasie, and Henry leave the room, Meiyin grunts and slams the Tek Rifle onto the table. Helena then asks if the Council could remove Meiyin from command, and Chaka answers that the Council's decisions are sovereign and their way. John then tells Meiyin that he bought her a few days and advises her to choose her argument, judiciously. When Helena tries to console Meiyin, she brushes Helena off and walks away. Later, Helena sits in a room with Alasie, draws in her notebook, and peers at Meiyin from afar. Alasie tries to cheer up Helena and claims that her food will make anyone happy. A dinosaur then pokes its head into the room, and Alasie feeds it some of her chowder, which it enjoys. Helena notes that despite the dinosaur's happiness, Alasie was violating a health code violation. Dodo then flies by Meiyin and caws at her. Meiyin smiles and claims, "Me too." She carries Dodo inside Alasie's room and notes that she found a friend of hers. When Meiyin is about to help Alasie serve some food, she winces in pain, and Helena treats her injury. As she does, Helena mentions how it is fine to ask for help, but Meiyin claims, "Weakness is death," and notes that it's a path that few can walk. Abruptly, Helena asks if Meiyin could teach her. Eventually, Helena went through strenuous training under Meiyin's tutelage. Helena gained many skills and knowledge through her training, and Alasie observed most of it. Soon, John approached Alasie with Rhubarb in hand and complained that despite Alasie promising to take care of Rhubarb, it left droppings on his bed. Alasie laughed at what Rhubarb did and apologized, but John then noted how impressed he was by the strategy Alasie proposed at the council meeting and how proud he was of her. Meanwhile, Helena finished treating Meiyin's wounds and noted how they healed nicely. Meiyin then thanked Helena, which surprised her as it was a compliment of gratitude, which Meiyin claimed was once enough. She then spots Helena's notebook, which she proceeds to steal and tries to keep away from Helena, but she still manages to take it back. Meiyin then claims that she'd make a warrior out of Helena yet. Helena then asks if they go to war with Nevra, but Meiyin claims that's if she hasn't been stripped of her command. Still, Helena claims they'll figure out how to convince the Council to avoid that outcome. To that claim, Meiyin explains that to take another's life is to rob them of the past, present, and future, all while disillusioned. She ends it by saying that you must also do it for a great, justified cause. Another flashback shows Zhou giving Han and Meiyin each a knife with a jade handle that once belonged to their father and uncle. Zhou reminds them that there is no greater honor than the absolute dedication of justice. At that moment, assassins killed the two guards stationed outside of where they were. Because of this, Zhou hid Meiyin and Han in a room behind where they were and was shot by an arrow from behind as he tried to advise the two to stay put. Zhou then faced off against three assassins whom he dealt with but perished when four more arrived. Both Meiyin and Han witnessed what had occurred. Meiyin then took Han's knife and, with her own, slew the remaining assassins. She'd then return to her brother Han, all covered in blood, and he'd tearfully embrace her. In the present, Helena asked how Meiyin survived that ordeal, but Meiyin answered, she did not. Helena would later sleep on Meiyin's shoulder, who would then cry about the event. After tucking Helena into bed, Meiyin would leave her and see a fireball strike one of the structures, followed by a couple more. Meiyin then warned Helena that they were under attack and that she should prepare for battle. Outside the confines of the area, Edmund tells Nevra about the scouts who canvassed the area and the finding of one of them who found John's base. Nevra orders that one be promoted and that he'll return the glory to return to Rome. Leading the way with his horde of soldiers riding on Brontosauruses and archers, they'd launch a full-scale assault on John's base. Meiyin entrusts the Tek Rifle to John, who asks that Alasie follow him and has Henry organize anyone who can't fight with him. As Meiyin and Helena flee, they witness a fireball hit Chava's hut, which disconcerts Helena. John and Alasie are seen heading to a point where they can snipe at Nevra's forces. Following Alasie's direction, John takes down a few of Nevra's dinosaurs. When Nevra orders his men to focus on the point that John is firing at, John orders Alasie to find Henry and lead them to the crystal cave beyond the waterfall. Despite John telling Alasie never to venture near the swamp before, John says it must be done. He also entrusts Alasie with his knife, but she asks him if he's coming too; however, John claims that he must stay where he is and do what he can. The two would share a quick hug, and Alasie would leave as John held his position. On Helena's side, she navigates through the flames inside Chava's hut and finds her on the ground. Helena picks up Chaka and guides her outside, and as she does, the invading forces start to invade the area, which Meiyin deals with them all. Mounted on Scary, Alasie takes Chava, regroups with Henry, and informs that John wants everyone to head into the swamp. While they flee, three soldiers pursue them, but Alasie takes out of them, and John takes out the remainder. Helena stays behind and helps Meiyin; soon, John calls out to Meiyin, who claims they need to regroup. Spotting more Brontosauruses marching forward, he tries to fire off his Tek Rifles, but it apparently runs out of ammo. As Nevra's Brontosaurus heads onward, he orders Edmund to find the artifact and, upon seeing Helena and Meiyin down below, proclaims he'll finish off what he failed to complete before. After leaping down to where Helena and Meiyin are, Nevra slays a bunch of soldiers who dared attack him and calls out to Meiyin with her epitaph. Meiyin and Helena would then attack Nevra, who, amid the fight, kicked Helena off down to the lower parts of the area, where she landed in an empty hut. Meiyin would then tip over a torch bowl, creating a stream of smoke and fire in the surrounding area. She'd use this tactic to her advantage and, in the process, smash and break Nevra's helmet, while also cutting his forehead. Searching for the artifact, Edmund finds the Tek Rifle working again, making him smile. Henry's group tries to navigate through the swamp, and two of the group members are eaten by the local wildlife. A dinosaur almost ate Alasie, but Henry used his crossbow to save her. Continuing with Meiyin's fight against Nevra, Meiyin gets struck in the back with a tranq-dart by Edmund, which Nevra curses Edmund for doing. Edmund apologized, and when asked if he found the artifact or anything of use, he lied and claimed that he hadn't. Aghast by what she had witnessed, Helena grabbed her bow and reached a high enough point to aim and fire her bow and arrow at Nevra. However, John stopped her and claimed that they'd get Meiyin back, but she was not there and like that. From Alasie's side, they close in on the crystal cave, and as the group progresses forward, Alasie watches as her home goes up in flames. Becoming teary-eyed, Scary, Dodo, and Rhubarb all console Alasie, who assures the three that everyone will come out of there alive. She then presses forward.
