"The Red Dot" is the 12th episode of the third season of Seinfeld. It was written by Larry David and directed by Tom Cherones; it first aired on December 11, 1991.
Elaine gets George a job at Pendant Publishing, and so as a thank-you gift he buys her a new cashmere sweater...but a heavily discounted one, thanks to a tiny red dot. Elaine's new office fling, Dick, who's been off (or is it on?) the wagon for a while now, suddenly turns when a misplaced drink by Jerry leads him to accidentally drink a vodka cranberry when he intended on just drinking cranberry juice. Elaine suspects him of drinking again, but she doesn't notice any alcohol smell on him. They give Kramer a few shots of Hennigan's scotch to see if he smells. He doesn't, and thus becomes obsessed with that brand of scotch and making a commercial for it.
George is later fired for having sex with the cleaning woman on his desk when she tells on him, due to her finding the sweater George gave Elaine and becoming enraged about cashmere, due to an incident regarding cashmere that happened to her in Panama.
•Mr. Lippman: "I'm going to get right to the point. It has come to my attention that you and the cleaning woman have engaged in sexual intercourse on the desk in your office. Is that correct?"
•George: "Who said that?"
•Mr. Lippman: "She did."
•George: (pauses for a few seconds) "Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, ‘cause I've worked in a lot of offices and I tell you people do that all the time."
•In this episode is the only instance of a character from the episode, Dick, appearing during Jerry's stand-up routine in between scenes.
•The sweater was purchased at Nautica. List price was $600, discounted down to $80.
•There really was no visible red dot on the sweater. It was a small red thread.
•This episode marks the first appearance of Richard Fancy as Mr. Lippman, though in this episode he is credited as "Mr. Breckman." Lippman was previous portrayed by Harris Shore in "The Library".
After helping him secure a job, George wants to get Elaine an extra-special present.
