James "Sonny" Crockett ( Don Johnson) is a Metro-Dade vice detective who loses his partner Eddie Rivera ( Jimmy Smits) in a car bombing during an undercover operation with a small-time drug dealer.
In New York, a young black man stakes out a New York apartment, waiting for an affluent drug dealer. After scaring off some would-be muggers with his sawed-off shotgun, he follows the dealer to a bar, where he pays a waiter to spill the dealer's drinks and force him into the men's room.
