The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas, is the only health sciences university in the state of Arkansas. We are the state’s largest public employer with more than 10,000 employees in 73 of Arkansas’ 75 counties.
The UAMS College of Medicine has educated and trained the vast majority of Arkansas’ physicians since 1879. Our goal is to produce doctors who are leaders dedicated to improving the health, health care and well-being of Arkansans and of others in the region, nation and the world.
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences was founded in 1879 by eight physicians. Today UAMS is the state’s only academic health center, part of a statewide network of postsecondary education institutions of the University of Arkansas System governed by a 10-member Board of Trustees.
