- Dr. Wily (Mega Man Series) Who else could have made it to the top of a list of the best Mega Man villains other than Dr. Wily? An evil scientist who never stops striving for world domination, he’s the root cause behind every crisis Mega Man is forced to clean up.
- Bass (Multiple Mega Man Series) Over the course of the many series incorporated into the Mega Man franchise, Bass has remained a looming threat to Mega Man in almost every game he appears in.
- Sigma (Mega Man X Series) While Sigma may fill the same recurring villain role in the Mega Man X series that Wily does in the Mega Man series proper, his backstory and motivations make him far more relatable.
- Dr. Weil (Mega Man Zero 3 & 4) The best way to describe Dr. Weil is that he’s who Dr. Wily would be without all of the silly, over-the-top antics and way more malicious intent.
- Spark Mandrill. Number one with an absolute bullet, the Spark Mandrill stage music is so good, it should almost be the theme song for the whole game.
- First Stage. When you have a game that starts with a stage prior to you getting to select anything, it better be memorable, and while the first stage of Mega Man X is definitely easy, its setting in a bombed-out city full of evil robots is very cool, and the music that accompanies it is nothing short of iconic.
- Storm Eagle. I cannot tell you how much I love the Storm Eagle stage, from it’s color scheme to its fun and difficult platforming sections. His section is on like an airplane hangar plus airship and it just sounds like a Top Gun movie.
- Zero’s Theme/Entrance. I’m cheating a little bit here since Zero’s theme only comes in during some of the stages, but his appearances in the game are among the best and most fist-pumping moments in the whole story.

- Megaman 2 theme. Composer: Takashi Tateishi. I’m using the credits theme version; it’s extended and doesn’t have the Megaman 1 credits theme bit. This was made specifically as the theme to just Megaman 2, but listen to it — it’s so captivating and powerful, how could it not become representative of the entire franchise?
- Megaman Ending Theme. Composer: Manami Matsumae. No, this isn’t the intro to Megaman 2, it’s the ending theme to Megaman! A cool thing that a few Megaman soundtracks do is that they’ll occasionally reference a previous game’s main theme or ending theme in their introductions.
- Air Man Stage (from Megaman 2) Composers: Takashi Tateishi and Manami Matsumae. While other songs like Gyro Man’s and Wind Man’s (and the previously talked about Tengu Man’s) stages portray the air as something giddy and happy, presumably because stages high up in the air are associated with flight and the freedom of being above the clouds, Air Man’s stage song gives it tension.
- Shadow Man Stage (from Megaman 3) Composer: Yasuaki Fujita. This song just goes places without ever losing its energy or its own identity… Though I’m not really sure what it’s trying to convey, as there is no clear discernible link between the song, the stage aesthetics, and the boss itself.
