Florø er Norges vestligste by og administrasjonssenter i Kinn kommune. [2] Florø fikk bystatus i 1860 og var da senter for sildefisket både på 1800-tallet og i 1950-årene. Florø ble administrasjonssenteret i den nye kommunen Flora da kommunene Florø, Eikefjord, Bru og Kinn ble slått sammen 1. januar 1964. Flora ble dermed en bykommune.
