Chattanooga ( / ˌtʃætəˈnuːɡə / CHAT-ə-NOO-gə) is a city in and the county seat of Hamilton County, Tennessee, United States. It is located along the Tennessee River, and borders Georgia to the south.
Tennessee at the time defined Hamilton County as being located “southwest of Rhea and south and east of Bledsoe and Marion counties.” Rhea County has important bearings on the development of early Hamilton County. Before 1819, the Sale Creek Valley area was a part of the southern boundary of Rhea County.
