Garanhuns, city, eastern Pernambuco estado (state), northeastern Brazil. The city lies in the Garanhuns Mountains, at 2,841 feet (866 metres) above sea level. It was elevated to city status in 1874. Garanhuns is a trade and manufacturing centre serving the food-producing region of the state’s southeastern area.
