Apple Valley is a city in California's San Bernardino County. The apple orchards of the early 20th century have been replaced by housing developments: streets of ranch and traditional housed along with the mid-20th century modern and usonian architectural designs between Hwy 18 and Bear Valley Road.
People would come to Apple Valley to enjoy the western lifestyle where they could ride horses, attend rodeos, and just get away from the big city. The modern founders of Apple Valley were Newton T. Bass and B.J. “Bud” Westlund, who were partners in the oil and gas industry in Long Beach, CA.
